Addiction and RecoveryHow does addiction take hold?
Addiction involves any behavior that becomes compulsive and out of control. People can not only get addicted to substances like alcohol and drugs, but also non-substance compulsions like pornography or gambling. These actions ultimately serve one purpose: they numb. Addiction isn't just about getting a high, but numbing and distracting underlying pain. How do you overcome addiction? Recovery from addiction is a journey. First you must surrender it to God, then find help from other people who will support you in your decision to find freedom. It is also imperative to work a program in order to find long-lasting freedom. Counseling can be a powerful tool to help you identify triggers, uncover root issues, transform your thinking, and ultimately find healing. |

Al received his Master of Arts in Biblical Counseling (MABC) from Luther Rice Seminary and his Bachelor of Arts from Winona State University. In addition to his education and training, his personal life and counseling experiences has helped others discover God’s healing power from the inner pain, hurts, wounds and trauma from their past.
My Story and ApproachMy personal journey of addiction began as a teenager growing up in a dysfunctional home. My battle with addiction continued through my early business career, marriage, and starting a new family. It wasn’t until I received the love and forgiveness of Jesus Christ that I found the courage to face my addiction and allow God to do what only God can do. As I discovered my freedom from addiction in Christ, my passion was to share this good news with others struggling with similar life controlling issues.
I can help you find your true identity in Christ, how to live the exchanged Christian life and the steps to freedom found only in Christ. I have been married to my beautiful and faithful wife Suzanne for 39 years. We have four children: two biological and two adopted from Haiti, as well as three grandchildren. I have held numerous positions in church leadership and director-level staff positions for Christ-centered rescue missions and outreach ministries. My counseling experience involves those from all walks of life, denominations and faiths, from the homeless addict under a bridge, or at a rescue mission, to the neighbor across the street. Working with the homeless, I have seen and heard it all. There is nothing in your life that will shock me and you will never feel judged or condemned. The steps to freedom are found in Christ. We can help guide and counsel you to the inner life transformation you desire. |
